A lot of people say they have rare Hot Karl songs, but recently on Twitter someone sent me this, and I didn’t even know it existed. I was super drunk and after a night out at clubs in 2001, we went back to record a radio drop at DJ Vice’s place for an upcoming mixtape he had (he was still grinding, not making millions in Vegas yet). At the time, it was determined that “Baldwin Brothers” would be my “crew,” which consisted of just Ryu from Styles of Beyond/Fort Minor/Get Busy Committee and my friend Ali “Abnormal” from growing up. It was basically just me saying, “Hey, if I blow up, I’m taking you guys with. You don’t need to do anything now, but pray.” They were my two favorite rappers my hometown (SFV) and figured it was an 818 supergroup.

Somehow, we took this Baldwin thing into totally weird directions, each taking an alias of a random celebrity for the crew. I was Bernie Lomax, Ryu was Elizabeth Shue (THE BEST ALIAS EVER) and Ab would be Gene Hackman. I even seemed to have named DJ Vice “Mark Harmon.” Again, this made no sense. Listen to our intros here (I say “We need all the cats to be in the studio”?????), it’s just stupid. Maybe we were Lil B when it wasn’t cool (Oh, and I do say “won ton”). The only song we ever did all together was called “Dear David Lynch,” in reference to the idea that we planned on not making sense. Ever. Also, I know it’s Jerry O’Connell. I was super drunk and that just seemed to come out during a break. And I love you, Jerry.

So this is the mixtape drop I did over a decade ago, super drunk, and didn’t remember it existed. I can hear how drunk I am, as some of my pronunciations are Daffy Duck-esque, and I’m almost trying to fit 7,000,000 words into each line (peace to Paul Barman). But it has some of the Hot Karl mainstays in it - Tyrese name check, Interscope diss, old school rap shout out, jinxing myself by saying the album is coming out.  Also Ryu is so good.

Opening up more and more about HK, hoping to get to the point where I can post some ridiculous videos. Not there yet.
